Dimensions

The layers of People and Life

People, like life itself, are made up of layers. What we see on the surface is only a fragment — a first impression shaped by behavior, appearance, or words.

Seemingly simple, yet filled with layers of experiences, memories, emotions, and beliefs that together form a much deeper, more complex whole.
Choices, coincidences, and invisible influences — each layer, whether it’s a phase in time, a relationship, a loss, or a victory, contributes to who we are and how we experience life.

True connection arises when we find the courage to look beyond the surface — to what is vulnerable, real, and often unexpected. Because it is in those layers that meaning resides.

DIMENSIONS

The title Dimensions was chosen to emphasize the depth created by the different layers and the interplay of lines, where everything is connected to one another. The strong dominant line is connected to all the other lines. This composition may seem simple, yet it is somewhat complex.

For the creation of the line composition on the canvas, both transparent paint in soft hues and dark paint, applied with a palette knife, were used.

Different techniques were used to create these works. In the details, you can see areas with sand, paint splatters and some metallic spray paint.

The use of metallic colors gives the work a special shine in the light in certain areas.

SASMA ZOETERMEER

For the presentation of the Dimensions collection, the artworks were photographed at Sasma in Zoetermeer. The choice of location was deliberate: the building’s contemporary architecture, with its clean lines, extensive use of glass, and open layout with long sightlines, echoes the key elements of the collection – structure, transparency, and spatial layering.

Sasma’s design places strong emphasis on natural light, openness, and connection. The large glass facades flood the interior with daylight, enhancing the sense of clarity and depth both in the space and in the artworks.

A central feature of the building is the open staircase, which links the different levels and serves as a visual and symbolic representation of movement, interaction, and human connection – all themes that resonate with the spirit of the Dimensions series.
